Having debuted with ‘Promises’ earlier in 2017, London electronic post-punk duo Kalli Ma have now released their new single 'High Shot' via Club.The.Mammoth..
 
Today, they share a video for the track. Directed by Katia Ganfield (No Tape Inside), it follows actor Alexander Arnold (Skins, My Cousin Rachel, The Salvation) on a trippy day around London.

Inspired by the bass-heavy aesthetic and rhythmic components of Techno, the directness of Minimal Wave and Post Punk’s multifarious approach, 'High Shot' showcases Kalli Ma's individual sound.

The track was written in Kalli Ma’s own studio in the basement of a community creative space just off London’s Holloway Road, armed with a hybrid of analog and digital synthesizers.
 
Kalli Ma sounds like an incendiary short circuit between Simian Mobile Disco, Not Waving and Factory Floor through a hypnotic kaleidoscope which incorporates elements of the past whilst keeping a careful eye on what lies ahead, bending genre boundaries.
 
Expect a few surprise related-releases to follow up, plus a physical format limited edition out very soon. They are also currently remixing several special artists whose releases are coming up in the next few months.

PERE UBU west coast next week



Pere Ubu are hitting the road with the music from their new album, ’20 Years In A Montana Missile Silo’ (Cherry Red Records distributed by MVD, release date 29th September 2017), starting with the east coast of America. ‘The MonkeyNet Tour’ will deliver an hour-long set of new songs, peppered with a couple of tracks from previous albums and David Thomas’ infamous narratives in-between. On the choice of tour name, Mr Thomas says, “An infinite number of monkeys clicking on an infinite number of links will yield nothing but an infinite number of bananas.”

With the new track ‘Monkey Bizness’ giving a taster of what’s to come, anticipation of hearing the new album is high and, along with the rave reviews of their live performances last year, fans are guaranteed a Pere Ubu show unlike those that have gone before, but with all the same extraordinary components.


The touring band for Pere Ubu are: 
David Thomas – vocals; Gary Siperko – guitar; Robert Wheeler – Analog synths, Theremin; Michele Temple - bass guitar, backing vocals; Steve Mehlman - drums, percussion, backing vocals. Plus Kristof Hahn.

Bio (Abridged) - ‘We don’t promote chaos, we preserve it!’
Pere Ubu's latest album is perhaps the most extensive orchestration of the band so far, with 9 professional musicians coming together to produce '20 Years In A Montana Missile Silo.' Following on from the success of their last album, ‘Carnival Of Souls,’ from which two tracks were used in cult TV show ‘American Horror Story,’ it is the latest in an extensive collection of albums that span the band’s 40+ year history. For this latest album, Kristof Hahn (Swans), joins the band on all tracks. 

In 1975, the Pere Ubu project was supposed to be an end, not a beginning. Assembled to be the Crosby Stills Nash & Young of the Cleveland music underground, the plan was to record one, maybe two singles and exist no more. Within months, however, those first self-produced records were being snapped up in London, Paris, Manchester, New York and Minneapolis. Pere Ubu was changing the face of rock music. Over the next four decades they defined the art of cult; refined the voice of the outsider; and inspired the likes of Joy Division, Pixies, Husker Du, Henry Rollins, REM, Sisters of Mercy, Thomas Dolby, Bauhaus, Julian Cope and countless others. With all their past material recently reissued, Pere Ubu are one of the few bands of that era still consistently producing new material that captures the attention of music critics worldwide. Despite the division of critics desperately trying to categorize them into genres in the early years, there is now a consensus that they are exclusively Avant Garage; still breaking new ground, outside of genre and outside of any media enforced pigeonholes.

LA-based artist Miya Folick has just released a new five-song EP Give It To Me on Terrible Records. Heralded by Stereogum as one of the "40 Best New Acts of 2017," Miya and her band have garnered attention from all quarters, including MTVNoiseyNMEDIYRefinery 29LA WeeklyNYLONVogue, and more. States Folick, "Give It To Me is a collection of songs made from a solitary place in one of the most social times in my life. I had a teacher tell me once that it's ok to be a watcher, that you don't have to feel bad when you don't know how to participate. Observation is important as well. Some of these songs are about that to me. They were recorded mostly live with great love and tenderness for myself and for you."

the Jesus Lizard Announce First Tour In 8 Years!

US TOUR DATES IN DECEMBER


The Jesus Lizard have confirmed a December tour of the U.S.  The band - who have not played live since 2009 - will kick things off in Nashville, TN on December 8. They play New York City on December 10 and Los Angeles on December 14.  These newly confirmed dates are in addition to the band's previously announced appearance during the Day For Night Festival happening in Houston, TX December 16 - 18. The complete list of tour dates is:

The Jesus Lizard formed in late 80's Austin, TX after David Yow (vox) and David Wm. Sims' (bass) previous band Scratch Acid broke up.  They started the Jesus Lizard withDuane Denison (guitar) and a drum machine and recorded their debut EP Pure with Steve Albini in 1989.  A move to Chicago prompted the firing of the drum machine in favor of Mac McNeilly (drums) and in 1990 the band recorded their first full-length,Head, for Touch and Go.  

While the labels "seminal" and "legendary" are often applied too easily, they both accurately describe the Jesus Lizard.  They released five more remarkable LPs before disbanding in 1999, the last being 1998's  Blue. During that time, they toured endlessly and issued not only the critically acclaimed studio LPs but also assorted singles, EPs, compilations and a live album.  Pitchfork has said of them: "the Jesus Lizard raised a bar that few bands have reached since...Rarely does a band have each member adding something essential to such a united, ferocious whole."  

December's tour will no doubt remind everyone that the Jesus Lizard excelled not only in the studio but on stage.  The band is indeed matchless in that capacity. Stereogumhave called them "one of the greatest live bands ever" and The New York Times has used the words "extravagantly good" while Rolling Stone speaks of the band's "shattering live performances."  

2008 saw the band regroup and the following year they toured the world with dates that included a slot at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago and All Tomorrow's Parties in the UK and upstate New York.  No plans exist for any performances beyond this December slate.

Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie will mark their 20th anniversary this week with the special release of never-before-heard audio captured at their very first live performance in their hometown of Bellingham, WA. “FIRST SHOW, ACOUSTIC AT THE PACER HOUSE, BELLINGHAM WA. 11​/​22​/​97” will be available exclusively via Bandcamp starting today, Wednesday, November 22nd; downloads begin at $4 with a portion of all proceeds benefitting Seattle’s The Aurora Commons.
 
In a statement from Death Cab for Cutie’s frontman, Benjamin Gibbard says,

This is a recording of the first ever Death Cab For Cutie show. It was made by our friend Trevor Adams on his dictaphone at The Pacer House in Bellingham, Washington on November 22, 1997.  Sprawled across couches and sitting cross-legged on the floor were 25 of our closest friends and fellow musicians.  Everyone played acoustic or semi-acoustic with no PA.  Trevor made and passed bowl after bowl of microwave popcorn because he was (and Iassume still is) a great host.

Chris Walla and I had just finished the You Can Play These Songs With Chords cassette and we thought it would be fun to play a few shows around Bellingham to celebrate the release.  We recruited Nick Harmer to play bass and Walla’s childhood friend Nathan Good to play drums.  None of us thought we were starting a band nor did our ambitions for DCFC extend very far past this particular evening.  We simply thought it would be fun to play these songs for our friends before moving on to other things.

I remain forever grateful to Trevor for inviting us to play in his living room 20 years ago today.  It was one of the greatest nights of my life at the time and its significance has only grown since.

Currently featuring the core membership of Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer, and drummer Jason McGerr, Death Cab for Cutie’s eighth studio album, “KINTSUGI” made a remarkable chart debut upon its March 2015 release, debuting at #1 on Billboard’s “Top Alternative Albums” and “Top Rock Albums” charts, as well as #8 on the overall SoundScan/Billboard 200. Hailed by Magnet as perhaps “the best record of (Death Cab For Cuties’s) 17-year career,” the album was honored with a “Best Rock Album” nomination for the 58th Annual GRAMMY® Awards – the iconic band’s eighth overall nod.
