ABOUT LEVITATION
Founded in 2008 as Austin Psych Fest, by members of The Black Angels and friends, the independent event has sparked a movement, inspiring the creation of Psych Fests and similar events across the globe. Austin Psych Fest was renamed Levitation in honor of Austin's psychedelic rock pioneers The 13th Floor Elevators, who reunited and performed at Levitation 2015 for the band's 50th anniversary.

In addition to the flagship event in Austin, the group has curated Levitation events in France, Chicago and Vancouver, along with ongoing events in Austin and special events and showcases at Mexico City's NRMAL, The Netherlands' Le Guess Who, and a massive annual Levitation showcase at SXSW. Levitation France celebrated its 5th year in September 2017, at Le Quai in Angers, FR with sold out crowds.  Since 2010, The Reverberation Appreciation Society record label has released records by key bands in the psych and garage rock scene like Night Beats, Holy Wave, Ringo Deathstarr and many more - with new releases on the horizon.

DRINKS' new album Hippo Lite is out today on Drag City, watch the "Corner Shops" music video now

DRINKS' new album Hippo Lite is out today on Drag City, watch the "Corner Shops" music video now
VIDEO: "Corner Shops" -
YouTube

Cate Le Bon and Tim Presley (White Fence) have teamed up for a second album as DRINKS. The new album, Hippo Lite, is out today on Drag City worldwide. DRINKS began in 2015 with the release of their debut LP, Hermits on Holiday on Presley's own Birth Records. Today they've shared the music video for "Corner Shops," filmed on location on the Azores Islands by Casey Raymond.
Here are some words from Tim and Cate on the making of Hippo Lite:
"A month spent in an old mill in the under belly of France.
River swimming thrice a day.
Hot nights soundtracked by the rattle of randy frogs. Scorpion fear. In the sheets, on the face.
Hours of bird watching - no phone service. No wifi. 3 DVDs; Jurassic Park 1, 2 & 3.
Violin practice. Bread scoffing.
Early morning coffee drinking before the sun was too hot to do anything but snooze in the thick walled house. Music in the afternoon after a dip in the river and a cold beer on the square.
An album made for each other by one another with no hands, eyes or ears piercing the bubble other than that of dear friend Stephen Black who kept note of it all."
Cate Le Bon

"In a town, so very still and quiet.
A month in St. Hippolyte Du Fort, South France.
Where completely all of their brave young men vanished forever from the death machine of the first world war.
At one time left with only women and young girls.
Only relics of time standing still.
All the deceased names of men chiseled under a stone angel, that watches over the town square.
We set up a recording unit in an old stone mill turned house and began to write and record with the attention of tree trimmers or gardeners.
It got so hot we had to swim in a local river near by just to be able to think, then back to our home to make sounds and songs. Any sounds we could think of or wanted.
We used night sounds, night insects and used frogs as instruments. Did you know frogs have saxophones in their throats?
This is a broken music. a crumble. It's the music of the building we called home for a month. We’ve never made & recorded music in such a simple living environment.
With all the ease, and air we needed. We were in a town 8 miles over from Robert Crumb's hidden residence.
We lived in a mysterious place.
We had a flock of bats over for dinner many nights. No internet, or a phone to look to.
We had a beautiful big stone house, a river, and from time to time a lovely elderly yet young-hearted couple who would visit.
It was the opposite of what a typical recording experience usually is for any of us.
We tried to capture all of this and put it on record."
- Tim Presley

"I have not listened to anything except the new Drinks album.......
At first i was like, this is a mind f**k. then i became addicted. it is totally brilliant"
- Bradford Cox (Deerhunter/Atlas Sound)

Recorded by Stephen Black (Sweet Baboo), Drums by “JT” John Thomas (Cate Le Bon/Islet) & mixed in Los Angeles by Samur Khouja at Seahorse Sound.

JORJA SMITH ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM

JORJA SMITH ANNOUNCES DEBUT ALBUM

LOST & FOUND TO BE RELEASED ON JUNE 8th 2018;
PRE-ORDER HERE

COACHELLA PERFORMANCE THIS WEEKEND + NORTH AMERICAN TOUR

Currently in the midst of her third US tour - including an outstanding debut appearance at Coachella and her US TV debut onJimmy Kimmel Live! - breakout star Jorja Smith is delighted to announce details of her highly-anticipated debut album Lost & Found, set for global release on June 8th, distributed globally (outside of France) by The Orchard. Previous singles "Blue Lights," "Teenage Fantasy" and "Where Did I Go?" will all be available as instant grats with the album pre-order.

Lost & Found is the rich fruit of Jorja's past two years of work and an artistic statement. On her debut offering, Smith's playfully infectious pop spirit intertwines with her youthful charisma, idiosyncratic storytelling, and informed opinions - attributes that have set her apart from her peers and seen her become one of the UK's most-loved female-breakthrough stars of recent years. A sonic masterclass, Lost & Found spans a number of personal, and observational yet relatable topics that only Jorja Smith could unite so compellingly. The album, which Jorja has written across the past 3 years, from the age of 17 to 20, includes previously released singles "Blue Lights", "Teenage Fantasy'" and "Where Did I Go?"
With a BRIT Award win, millions of streams and 10 magazine front covers under her belt - all achieved in just two years - Jorja Smith's rise to stardom has been nothing short of meteoric.

Bursting onto the scene in 2016 with her critically acclaimed debut single "Blue Lights", Jorja was subsequently tipped for success by a plethora of publications including The Fader, i-D Magazine, Pitchfork, NPR, Vogue and many more. In 2017, Jorja, went on to support mega-star Bruno Mars on the US-leg of his world tour, collaborated with global lyricist Drake (More Life) and also co-wrote "I Am" - her solo single on the #1 Black Panther soundtrack - with the man himself, Kendrick Lamar.

Kicking-off 2018 as BRITs Critics' Choice winner, she followed with her sensational single "Let Me Down"; a stunning, frank, and honest track which featured an emotion-filled rap from British MC Stormzy. Shortly after, Jorja embarked on her third sold-out 8-date UK tour which concluded with two Shepherds Bush Empire dates, all reviewed to critical acclaim.

Fleet Foxes and Iceland Choir Graduale Nobili - "Crack-Up"
Fleet Foxes’ North American tour is underway. The band will give a massive performance at Coachella tomorrow night and continue on their extensive headline run to play Boston Calling, Shaky Knees, Pitchfork Festival and Panorama as well as two nights at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium, the first of which has officially sold out; tickets are still available for the second. The full itinerary is below.

Fleet Foxes released Crack-Up last June. Following a six-year hiatus, the band delivered an internationally beloved full-length album, sold out notable venues including Red Rocks Amphitheatre and the Hollywood Bowl, performed on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert as well as CBS This Morning, and earned year-end recognition from Esquire,Consequence of SoundPasteUproxxVulture, and more.

“On Saturday night at the Hollywood Bowl, Robin Pecknold was as powerful as any performer who’s ever played the Bowl’s stage. He was a flash of folk and light and feeling. He was gentleness masked in fury, or maybe the other way around. ” - Uproxx

“Triumphant Return… Despite the large venue, Pecknold’s vocals were able to reach those in the far back, highlighted by the band’s impressive musicianship… It all coalesced to create a rich, ethereal setting.”
Billboard

“The culmination of a two-hour high-wire act full of intricate, often breathtaking music. Judging by the flushed, smiling faces of the faithful as they file questly out, one that’s been worth the six-year wait.”
Q Magazine

"The show felt like it had disregarded the laws of physics, with each perfect transition between songs threading time together, making you feel like there was no such thing as an end." - Seattle Weekly

"They brought with them everything fans love about Fleet Foxes: layered harmonies shepherded by Robin Pecknold's still-incredible voice, pastoral lyrics, and an almost religious-seeming intensity that made the Crystal feel like a cathedral."
Portland Mercury

"Bigger and better after hiatus." - Washington Post

"Tuesday night's show showcased the immense talent of everyone involved in the group for a truly engaging live experience." - New York Daily News

"The six-year wait seemed almost worth it for the chance to spend a short while in the company of Pecknold once again." - Consequence of Sound

"Pecknold’s ultra-pure voice and timeless, picturesque lyrics soared through the hall all night, raising goosebumps at the peak moments in beloved ‘oldies’ like ‘Ragged Wood,’ ‘He Doesn’t Know Why,’ ‘Helplessness Blues’ and especially ‘Mykonos.’”
Las Vegas Weekly

PETE YORN & SCARLETT JOHANSSON’S NEW SINGLE, “BAD DREAMS,” IS OUT TODAY

PETE YORN & SCARLETT JOHANSSON’S NEW SINGLE, “BAD DREAMS,” IS OUT TODAY

Track Is From Duo’s New EP, Apart, Set For June 1 Release

“Bad Dreams” Video, Directed By Sophie Muller, Available Now Only On Apple Music HERE

Today, Capitol Records released “Bad Dreams,” the first single from Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson’s new EP, Apart. Set for release on June 1, Apart marks their first collaboration since their 2009 album, Break Up. The EP features four brand new recordings and a new version of“Tomorrow,” a song that originally appeared on Yorn’s last album, 2016’s ArrangingTime. See below for track listing.

The official video for “Bad Dreams” premiered exclusively on Apple Music today and can be viewed HERE. Conceived by legendary director Sophie Muller (Sade, Gwen Stefani, Annie Lennox), it takes Yorn and Johansson on a strange trip through the night where nothing is what it seems. Their relationship plays out through a series of surreal moments where roles are reversed, and suspicion is heightened. In the end, we don’t know if it was all a dream.

“It was great to collaborate with Scarlett again. We recorded ‘Bad Dreams’ over a couple of days in downtown L.A. at the Spring Street studio of our old friend R. Walt Vincent,” says Pete Yorn.

“If Breakup was dealing with an unraveling relationship, Apart is dealing with the aftermath,” he explains. “It acknowledges the array of heavy emotions that come up living separate lives. You’re getting used to the idea of not being with someone who has been a big part of your life. Even after a break up has occurred, the presence of an ex still seems to loom large in one’s mind for a while. There are moments during the day where you wonder, is it really over? Or will there be another chapter in the relationship now that it has evolved? The EP is an attempt to sort through all this and get comfortable with the excitement of new freedoms while facing underlying fears of the unknown road that lies ahead.”

Scarlett Johansson adds, “Being able to revisit this project with Pete in a totally different context but within the same creative parameters is a unique artistic opportunity for me. It is always a pleasure to sing with Pete because I think our voices and stories complement each other.”

Certified Platinum in France, Yorn & Johansson’s Break Up charted on the Alternative and Rock album tallies in the U.S. as well as the Billboard 200. Entertainment Weekly said, “Johansson’s throaty vocals fit Break Up’s intimate vibe” and Alternative Press praised “the bittersweet bounce of [lead single] ‘Relator.’” Paste noted, the eight songs Yorn has written for this album are among his best—the kind of thoughtful, catchy heartache pop at which he excels. Between Yorn’s ingratiating tunes, Johansson’s harmonies and the lush, inventive production, Break Up ultimately succeeds in its ambitious goal of capturing the spirit – if not the sound – of the late-’60s musical partnership between Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot.”
